Privacy and cookies

What this site records when you visit, which cookies it can set, and how to change your mind. Last updated 8 October 2026.

This is a personal site run by Dan Manning, who is responsible for the information described here. Nothing on it is sold or used for advertising.

Your analytics choice

Checking your choice.

Rejecting after an earlier acceptance deletes the cookies Google Analytics set on this site. Clearing this site's data in your browser does the same and also forgets your theme choice.

What the site records

Server logs
For every request, the hosting service records the time, the path, the method, the response status and timing, and your browser's user-agent string. These logs are kept for 14 days and are used to count page views and to spot abuse. They do not include your network address, cookies, query strings or anything you type.
Google Analytics, only if you accept
If you accept analytics, the profile pages load Google Analytics 4. It sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_EH0CFY6CG8, which last up to two years and identify your browser to Google Analytics. Google receives the pages you view, the site that referred you, your screen size, browser and device type, and an approximate location that Google derives from your network address. Google keeps event data for the period set on the property, which is two months, the shortest it offers. Advertising features and cross-device tracking (Google Signals) are switched off. Until you accept, nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookie exists. The demonstration pages never load Google Analytics.
The demonstrations
Starting a demonstration sets one strictly necessary cookie, __Host-acp_session, which identifies your demo session for an hour. It is sent only to this site and cannot be read by scripts. What you type into a demonstration is stored with its run for 24 hours so that a reviewer can see what was asked, and is never written to logs. The demonstrations use fictional data; please type fictional text only.
Rate limiting
To limit how fast any one client can call the demonstrations, the service keeps a hashed form of your network address as a counter for up to two hours. The address itself is not stored or logged.
Preferences in your browser
Your colour theme and your analytics choice are kept in your browser's local storage, on your device only. They are your own settings, so no consent is asked for them. Clearing the site's data removes them.
Hosting
The site runs on Amazon Web Services in London (eu-west-2). Google Analytics data, if you accept it, is processed by Google under its own terms.

Your rights and how to get in touch

You can ask what information about you is held, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you are unhappy with the answer. Write to hello@danmanning.co.uk. The server logs hold nothing that identifies you by name; the analytics cookies are the only identifier, and you can remove them with the button above.
